We’re Number One!

Well, not really. Actually, we’re number twenty-three.

In the 2013 World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Gender Gap Report, which measures women’s economic, political, educational, and health equality, the United States ranks at number 23 out of 136 countries around the world. The country falls behind many Nordic countries as well as Nicaragua, Cuba, and Burundi, among others.

The country also falls at number 17 out of the 49 high-income countries measured.

“Just a bunch of socialist who hate freedom!”

That would be response of our white male upper class media pundit and political sectors to the World Economic Forum’s report.

Naturally they would follow up with a dog whistle filled discussion of how working to make our society more inclusive would make ALL of us “less free and more insecure” and that certain “groups” are clearly incapable of handling such freedom and equality (but totally not racist, it’s just fact!). Then they’d claim they have friends in the 22 nations ahead of us who totally HATE it there; therefore the idea of making our society more equal it a non-starter, such equality only destroys nations (look at ancient Rome!), LIBERTY!, and so on and so on.

Ever notice none of their “friends” in those countries ever seem to want to leave those countries even though they hate it there so much?

    Yep.

I look forward to the WEF report being vigorously and thoroughly ignored by our glorious news media and political figures because American Exceptionalism!

If they did it would probably be to say that American women need to “lean in” more.

I expect Chuck Todd and David Gregory to wipe their asses with the report. And I don’t even want to think about what Fox News and Limbaugh would do with it.

    Okay fine, but Cuba?

Bitter pill to swallow, isn’t it?
