House Republicans Commit to Flushing Money Down the Rick Perry Toilet

If House Republicans couldn’t garner enough votes to pass their own bill yesterday, what makes them think they’ll be more successful today?

Apparently they’ve sweetened the deal by committing to throw money in the Rick Perry toilet.

They’re now tweaking the bill and taking the temperature of their rank-and-file, trying to see whether anything can be passed before lawmakers flee the district. [...]

Friday, leaders tossed in an additional $35 million to reimburse states such as Texas who have sent the National Guard to the border to help deal with the crisis, bringing the bill’s total to $694 million.

The National Guard troops Rick Perry deployed to the border don’t have the authority to make arrests; they can only refer immigrants to local authorities or the Border Patrol. And local sheriffs haven’t been too keen on their deployment because, again, they have no real authority. It’s essentially a thousand man photo op and a waste of money.

House Republicans believe they can find the votes for their bill by wasting money on another waste of money. Because we need to stop wasteful spending. Or something.

Will it work? Maybe.

Whether they pass their pathetic and embarrassing bill today or not, the Senate isn’t going to vote for it and the president would veto it even if they did. They’re going through an awful lot of trouble to make complete jackasses out of themselves for a bill that won’t become law. It’s bewildering but also amazing and keep going!

So. They refuse to provide funding for the actual needs at the border; food, housing, shelter, medical care, actual law enforcement needs, etc.

But they will provide federal funds to reimburse states rights blatherer Perry for his unnecessary, unhelpful, useless, money-wasting, hypocritical, photo op grandstanding deployment of his National Guard, for which he suddenly wants those sweet, sweet, federal dollars.

    Nice scam. Useless fuckers.

      Yes.

Of course, the way they see it, they’re not willing to spend money in diseased invading criminals who’ve come to steal their stuff, but are willing to spend whatever it takes to look like they’re manly.

But, then, they’re self-indulged soulless morons.

And living in an alternate reality of republican fear and hate.

There is not enough money in the world.

Every time I see that repulsive picture of Hannity and Perry I just want to throw up.

The ugliness that photo represents is pretty appalling. Whenever I see that pic, though, I laugh until my ribs ache. Damfool eejits trying to look butch and missing by parsecs are always funny.

Why does Texas need our money?

What ever happened to that “Texas Miracle” back around 2010 that was jammed down our throats as proof “conservative free market economics works better” and Perry’s boasts that Texas could secede and actually do better than it is right now?
Oh yeah…turned out to be bullshit.

The only holdup to passing an immigration reform bill is Nancy Pelosi. I shit you not, on the radio station I listen to most the time, they sometimes push their AM news sister station with “Fox News at the top and bottom of every hour.” Today’s little clip blames Democrats (specifically naming Pelosi) for not helping Republicans pass a bill. The bonus is a sound bite of boner saying, “It’s better to do something than nothing.”

It’s no wonder the true believers are so willfully and belligerently ignorant.

I still think Rick Perry looks like Jim Jones in that pic.

The House Republican leadership had to give the Rightier-than-thou maniacs more and more goodies just to pass a symbolic bill that would do nothing except waste taxpayer money! (I was under the impression Rs hated wasting taxpayer money!—guess I was wrong) and would never become law.

    Quite an accomplishment.

There is nothing conservative about the modern republican party (there’s also nothing modern about the current republican party). Somehow their borrowing and spending is better than the evil taxing and spending.

    • Christopher Foxx

I was under the impression Rs hated wasting taxpayer money!

On the contrary. Based on what they have actually, truly done for the past few decades, Republicans don’t do anything BUT waste taxpayer money.

Big, tough guys with tiny, soft, white hands.

I thought they were going to secede from the Union. Can we get a definite date on that?
